UB Saturday

Today there was Upward Bound. We had TRiO day, which means that we visited BSU and took some sessions about college or preparing for college or careers, and partook in a college fair. This is how my day started. I woke up at 7:30  because Jake texted me good morning. The bus leaves the college at 8, I leave two miles away, my mom's at work and I'm still in my clothes from the day before with messy hair and craving a shower. 5 minutes later Jake is at my door. How'd I get ready in less than 5 minutes? I changed shirts, tossed a hoody over it, put my hair in a bun, and brushed my teeth at I found socks and packed  I wound up leaving a bunch of stuff at home, but I had my ipod which is all that really mattered. Bailey was there and so we sat together. She got to meet Colton and he complimented her on being chesty. I told him that I was the only one allowed to compliment her chest and Tim reprimanded him. Kinda. The guest speaker was funny and I liked the way he tied together really fumy life stories with serious things, and the way he kept everyone engaged in what he was saying. Then we broke out into our sessions where me and Bailey were quickly disappointed. We went to a session that was supposed to be about careers in Science Technology Engineering and Math. Also called the STEM field. The guy spent the entire time talking about geological science, and when we asked him questions about the engineering program or other science programs he was completely lost and no help at all. Then we visited the chemistry building  except ever room was locked up and all we really did was walk about the hallways. After that was lunch. Lunch was delicious! Once we finished stuffing ourselves we went to the college fair. Bailey, Jake and I wound up being the last ones there. Most of the colleges had packed up and left by the time we did! I hadn't even noticed everyone leaving! Bailey and I would spend a lot of time at each booth asking questions. After that we went to a session on the costs of living in college. We learned about the cost of being on your own as a college student, not the things like books, tuition and those kind of things, but stuff like, the cost of transportation  housing, and food. We also learned ways to spend less while in college. I really like that one. Then Me and Jake had to go to a special session because we had been selected for being leaders. Bay went to this one that she had wanted to go to while me and Jake struck off to our session. We learned nothing about leadership that wasn't already known to first graders. *sigh* what a waste. Then we went back to the auditorium, prizes were given out and we piled back onto various buses where we then headed for home.

Timberman Triathlon

Okay, this one really is going to be short. I don't really have much to say besides what's about to be said. So....read on! First off do you know what a triathlon is? Or what the Timberman triathlon is? You don't? Let me explain then. A triathlon is where you swim, bike, and run. You're timed in each event and your transition time (how long it takes you to go from one event to the next) also counts against you. The Timberman is a triathlon held in Grand Rapids MN. It has a long course (mile swim, 26.2 mile bike, and a 10K run. But don't quote me on the bike) and a sprint course (1/3 mile swim, 13.1 mile bike, and a 5K run, but don't quote me on the bike again). It's a fun event put on every year and draws a nice crowd of people from every age and fitness level. I did the short course and this is how it went: Swim The swim was by far my worst event. I did it in my sports bra and spandex shorts (last year I did it in normal shorts and nearly lost them!...

Dear Asthma,

I would prefer to tell you this face-to-face, but seeing as you have no face and live within my own body, I see no chance of that happening anytime soon. Therefore it is with an ache in my chest that I write this to you. I am sorry, but we are different places in life. I will always remember the times we had together. I mean, who could forget the times you've had me doubled over, coughing as my lungs attempt to dispel you from my body causing you to become caught and tangled within my throat so I can no longer take in a breath. There's also the times where you, in anger with my lungs for trying to get rid of you, wrap your arms around my chest and squeeze with all your might. Just as you've done today. I would love to keep you here with me, but we really are in separate places in this life. I know, it sounds cliche and yet it rings true. You've changed since we first met. You now want to take the easy way in life. To sit back and watch all the good times ...

Mother's Day

So today is Mother's Day, but my mom just went back to work. (She's been on medical leave because of a stress fracture in her leg. She couldn't wait to get back to work and so on Thursday when she got the go ahead, she got herself scheduled for 12 hour days all weekend. It's like she was never here again.) So instead if the usual breakfast in bed, which she winds up throwing a fit about anyways, I've cleaned the house. That doesn't sound like much, but the boys are such pigs that the house is always nasty. My mom is like OCD, and can't stand it. So coming home to a clean house will be much appreciated. If it stays clean that is. Not even 5 minutes after I finished cleaning the living room/dining room area it was somewhat messy. Squirt had dumped out the entire sock bag all over the living room, there were a pair of dirty shoes on the arm of the couch belonging to my 21 yr old brother Josh who should know better by now and a jacket on the ground. Normally I...
